1. Continuing the Jordanian Markets Initiative and Developing Its Digital Presence
The idea of standardizing digital addresses and codes for commercial and service-oriented businesses comes as a continuation of the Jordanian Markets Initiative, further developing its path toward building an organized digital environment that facilitates access to markets, shops, products, and services across all governorates of the Kingdom.
2. The Jordanian National Domain (.jo) as the Foundation for a Unified Digital Identity
If the Jordanian Markets Initiative aims to strengthen the presence of local markets and connect consumers with businesses, the next complementary step is to establish a unified national system that gives every business a clear digital identity and identifies its location and specialization within an integrated system that makes use of Jordan’s national internet domain (.jo).
3. A Unified Coding System for Identifying Shops and Their Locations
The proposal is based on adopting a unified coding system consisting of five main elements: the governorate code, the commercial specialization code, the area code, the street code, and the building or shop number.
This code would be linked to a dedicated webpage for each business within the Jordanian Markets platform, enabling users to access the shop, its information, and its services by searching for it, entering its code, or scanning a Quick Response (QR) code.
4. Expanding the Online Reach of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses
This integration would transform Jordanian Markets from a platform that simply introduces businesses into a more organized digital ecosystem that connects geographical locations, economic activities, and digital identities.
It would help small and medium-sized businesses improve their online visibility and reach new customers without necessarily having to bear the costs of creating and maintaining a separate website for each business.
5. Unifying Market Data and Supporting E-Commerce
The system could contribute to standardizing shop information, facilitating delivery services, and improving the search for products and services by governorate, area, and specialization.
It would also create opportunities for future expansion into online booking, purchasing, digital payments, and digital marketing services.
6. Project Implementation and Expansion Across the Governorates
The project could be implemented gradually, beginning with the development of a unified coding standard in cooperation.
A pilot project could then be launched involving a selected group of markets and shops, followed by expansion across Jordan’s governorates based on the results of the pilot, data accuracy, and the readiness of the technical infrastructure.
7. Establishing a Unified National Digital Directory for Jordanian Markets
Completing the Jordanian Markets Initiative through this proposed system would create an opportunity to establish a unified national digital directory for markets and commercial and service-oriented businesses across Jordan.
This directory would rely on a shared database of addresses and codes, giving every business a clearer opportunity to be discovered and accessed, while helping organize the relationship between markets, consumers, and logistics services.
8. Toward a National Digital Infrastructure That Serves Jordan’s Economy
The initiative would thus represent a step toward developing national digital infrastructure that supports the local economy, advances digital transformation, and strengthens the presence of Jordanian markets in the online environment.
This would be achieved by moving away from fragmented addresses and disconnected platforms toward an integrated system built on clarity, standardization, and ease of access.
