Judicial Verification of a Woman’s Consent in Cases of Significant Age Difference Between the Couple Under Jordanian Law

The Jordanian Personal Status Law requires the judge to verify the woman’s consent and free choice if the suitor is more than twenty years older than her. This provision ensures that the marriage is based on mutual consent and free will, without any form of coercion or pressure. According to Article 11 of the Jordanian Personal Status Law: “It is prohibited to conduct a marriage contract for a woman whose suitor is more than twenty years older than her unless the judge confirms her consent and choice.”
