Until What Age Does Custody Wage Continue? When Is It Terminated?
Custody wage (financial compensation paid to the custodian) is a legally recognized right granted in return for caring for and raising the child. A common question is: How long does custody wage continue, and when is it legally terminated?
This article explains the rule in accordance with Article 178(a) of the Jordanian Personal Status Law.
Legal Provision Governing Custody Wage
Article 178(a) of the Jordanian Personal Status Law states that:
Custody wage continues until the child completes fifteen (15) years of age.
The legislator has therefore clearly specified the age limit for entitlement.
Until What Age Does Custody Wage Continue?
✅ Custody wage continues until the child reaches the age of fifteen (15).
The custodian remains entitled to receive custody wage throughout this period, unless another legal reason affects custody.
When Is Custody Wage Terminated?
🔹 Custody wage is terminated from the date the child completes fifteen years of age. 🔹 The termination date is the date on which the legal cause occurs — namely, the child reaching the age specified in Article 178(a).
In other words, once the child turns 15, entitlement to custody wage ceases as of that date.
Important Legal Notes
- The rule applies upon completion of fifteen years, not merely entering the fifteenth year.
- The officially registered date of birth is used to calculate the age.
- Termination of custody wage does not necessarily mean termination of child support (maintenance), if there is another legal basis for its continuation.
- The court may consider special circumstances where applicable.
Conclusion
According to Article 178(a) of the Jordanian Personal Status Law:
- Custody wage continues until the child completes 15 years of age.
- It is terminated from the date this age is legally completed.
